Heartlander of the Week: So Long Ago, Not So Long

This week’s Heartlander is Martin Luther King, Jr. Today was the anniversary of his killing.

I suppose I should have picked his birthday or something. I think sometimes we do need to remember the blood and the pain, along with the happy times. It is pretty strange to think that someone would kill an ordinary citizen—not an elected, not a member of the military, but a minister—because he spoke out.  Organized people who didn’t have much. That alone stops me in my tracks, how insane? Makes you think about what the country went through and why.  Where it must have been back then.  I’m glad we’re not there any more.

Not much else to say. May God have mercy on all of us and may the days keep getting brighter.
