To Nathan Leon, his family and friends.
An ordinary person, doing what many in America like to see–working to pay the bills, maintain self-sufficiency. He was, apparently, killed for a shirt.
I have a vague memory of reading something in the newspaper on Monday the 18th or the morning of the 19th about a Dominoes pizza carrier who was shot. A story that causes for some a little tingle at the base of the spine, a familiar sensation from another place and time but no, it’s just a coincidence, just a sign of tough times.
So many people showed up at the funeral. Let one of them be the man that Nathan was, and help support that family and those kids. Build a fence around them and keep them safe and grow them up and keep their friends and neighborhood clean and safe and stable.
It’s a lot of work to be ordinary. To hard work.
