Heartlander of the Week: Keep Going

To the People of Boston and the Marathon.  OK, this one was a no brainer.

The modern Marathon Era started with the first Olympics in 1896.  The following year, Boston held its first Marathon, for no real reason other than to do it.  The thing that is so jive about all of this, is it would inspire Marathons, and later walks, bike rides, muddy races and every imaginable kind of community athletic—or not so athletic event–throughout the World, to get people together, blow off some steam, get physically fit, raise some money, have fun.  Who wants any of that?

OK, so maybe things like Marathons are First World Fun, the antidote to First World Problems.  I would note that the dominant force in the Marathon World for the past 30 years has been East Africa and Serbians held an impromptu marathon on Tuesday in Solidarity.

Some things are about winning, some are about finishing.  We’ll be seeing this one to the Finish.
