To Janet Napolitano. She who departed the Department of Homeland Security for . . . . the University of California.
If there’s two kind of people in the World, Morning People and Night People, People who put the garbage can under the sink and People who set the garbage can out on the floor, then for everyone born between 1946 and 1964, there are “People who support the War” and “People who oppose the War”. Vietnam that is.
And, of course, if you “Support the War” you hate the University of California. And you love the Department of Homeland Security. So the former Secretary of Homeland Security moving on to run the University of California is kind of like General Patton deciding to move on to hand making clothes out of hemp . . . . for prison inmates. Because they are really just misunderstood.
Which is to say it is probably surreal, which is not surprising given that the Vietnam War ended in 1974. That’s 39 years ago.
If you’re still arguing about Supporting vs Opposing Vietnam, you probably find a lot of what goes on around you today to be out of whack. Computers on your desk, these weird companies, Apple and MicroSoft duking it out with IBM, Presidents who admit they smoke pot, women and minorities working in large numbers in professional and skilled jobs, elevators and funny ramps on all the public buildings.
Yeah, 1974 was a long time ago. You can try to pretend time didn’t pass and the World didn’t change, but it did.
So we got the recently former Secretary of Homeland Security heading off to head the University of California. Well, look at those guys, all gettin’ along an’ s#!t. Who’da thunk it?
