Heartlander of the Week: A Hero to Us All

Sometimes it’s easy.  This week’s Heartlander is Nelson Mandela.  “Architect of Human Progress”  I think that is the best one I’ve heard.

Maybe I’m just being opinionated, but the last six or seven years have not exactly been the greatest era in the United States.  Honestly, I was at a different stage in life, but all this is starting to make the 80’s—crack wars, flat economy, really bad hair and all—look good.    So, with that context understand my anger and frustration when I say, “How dare you leave us now?  What are we supposed to?  We’re stuck with this craptastic Greed Generation running things and it’s all, like, ‘egghhh, my house is only 7,000 square feet, where are my tax credits?  I need another master suite.’  What the Hell, anyway?”  The whole country is in a deep freeze and there are people on the street and I’m so sick of hearing about all the stuff these people don’t have.

I wish I understood how you turned a country around.  I really don’t want to think it has to get that much worse.  Another Guide Star extinguished.  We’re lost already.  Where are we supposed to go to find a path forward?  It used to seem so clear where We were going and it was together and you were in the Vanguard.  Two Roads Diverge in the Wood.  Maybe more than two roads.  From Chaos, Leaders emerge.  Who will be our Role Model, now that our Role Model is gone?

Good bye, Sweet Man.  May your Soul Rest in Eternal much earned Peace.
