Heartlander of the Week: the Head and the Heart

This week’s Heartlanders are a Mother-Daughter Team in California who are helping the pets of homeless individuals.

One of the barriers to getting homeless people into a housed situation, and sometimes a contributing factor to homelessness, is pets. People lose a housing situation and can’t find another one that allows their pet, it’s harder to find friends and relatives to bunk with if you have a pet, even hotels are pickier and more expensive with a pet. And thanks to Hurricane Katrina, we all know that Americans would die rather than abandon a pet—in significant numbers, so . . . . Yeah. It’s a living creature.

“We must all hang together, or assuredly we shall all hang separately.”

Girl Power!
