Gluten-free Monday: Own Your Power

[I am back from hiatus. That’s right, I decided to give myself a summer hiatus.  Taking hiatus, that’s part of being involved in the Media.  Did you miss me? Personally, I just like an excuse to use the word “hiatus.”]

So, gluten-intolerants and –sensitives, you may feel vulnerable. You also have Power. You have the knowledge and the power to eat healthy and be healthy. You choose what you eat—if something isn’t good for you, if it is not safe, then don’t eat it.

Eat fresh, ask questions, Just say no to foods with hidden ingredients. Share your knowledge with others. Your friends care about you—they want to know what you need. Restaurants and stores want your business, they want to understand as well.

Who knows, you may help someone else who doesn’t understand why they feel bad and why eating hurts sometimes. The root cause of gluten-intolerance/ celiac disease has only been understood for about sixty years, and the medical community is still learning how to identify it. Once identified, treatment is relatively simple, all things considered—don’t eat anything with gluten in it! No wheat, barley or rye. Disappointing? Yes. Hard? It doesn’t have to be. Just say yes to all kind of wonderful, yummy food, including dairy, meat and fruits and vegetables. 🙂 And all the other grains—corn, rice, quinoa . . .

So much yummy. 🙂
