Gluten-free Monday: Dermatitis Herpetiformis

So, one collection of symptoms of gluten intolerance is skin reactions–rashes, flaky dry skin, dandruff and breakouts. This includes Dermatitis Herpetiformis, red, raised blistering patches that are itchy and sting when scratched. I get rashes like this sometimes when I eat gluten-containing foods.

Herpetiformis, as in herptiles or herpetofauna, as in amphibians and reptiles. So, I guess, in the way of Bridget Jones, I really am covered with scales under my clothes.  Sometimes.

Yet another good reason to be careful what I eat.
