This week’s Heartlander is a repeat: Congratulations Nigeria for finding a quick and simple treatment for Ebola that seems to be at least somewhat effective in reducing mortality—oral hydration with an electrolyte and sugar solution. You know, kinda like sports drink, or as one used to in the old days, Flat Coke.
That’s right, the age old remedy for vomiting, can’t keep anything down, just let some Coke go flat and then drink flat Coke until you can keep solid food down. Two, three days, however long it takes. Keep sipping flat Coke until you are better.
I am totally in favor an Ebola vaccine and more aggressive anti-viral pharmaceutical treatments. Until those treatments are developed and widely available, at least there is an affordable, mass produce-able treatment to give some hope to patients and those around them.
To keeping it simple.
