Heartlander of the Week: Bead It out

This week’s Heartlanders are those working for the betterment of our waterways by removing microbeads and microplastics.

Microplastics are persistent in the environment and can be digested by animals and plants and wind up imbedded in tissues. If they decompose, the byproducts can be toxic on a molecular level. They can erode the health of fish, birds, animals and humans, and probably plants.
